How to Create Text Keyframes in Premiere Pro: A Step-by-Step Guide

Keyframing text in Adobe Premiere Pro is a powerful way to add dynamic motion and effects to your titles. This tutorial will guide you through the process of creating text keyframes, enabling you to animate your text for a more engaging video. Follow these steps to get started.

Step 1: Create a New Text Layer

First, you need to create a new text layer for your animation.
1. Open your project in Adobe Premiere Pro.
2. Select the Type Tool (shortcut: T) from the toolbar.
3. Click on the Program Monitor where you want the text to appear and type your desired text. For this example, we'll use "Video Boost."

Step 2: Access the Effect Controls Panel

After creating your text, you need to access the Effect Controls panel to start keyframing.
1. Select the text layer in the timeline.
2. Go to the Effect Controls panel. If it’s not visible, you can enable it by going to Window > Effect Controls.

Step 3: Create Your First Keyframe

To animate your text, you'll create keyframes for each letter.
1. In the Effect Controls panel, find the text properties you want to animate (e.g., Position, Scale, Opacity).
2. Click the stopwatch icon next to the property you want to animate. This action will create your first keyframe at the current playhead position.

Step 4: Animate Letter by Letter

To create the typing effect, you need to add keyframes for each letter individually.
1. Move the playhead to the position where you want the first letter to appear.
2. Adjust the text layer so only the first letter is visible.
3. Move the playhead a few frames forward.
4. Adjust the text layer to include the second letter.
5. Repeat this process for each subsequent letter, moving the playhead a few frames forward each time and adjusting the text layer to reveal the next letter.
For example:
- Move the playhead to the desired start point and make "V" visible.
- Move the playhead a few frames forward and make "Vi" visible.
- Continue this process for "Vid," "Vide," "Video," and so on until the entire text "Video Boost" is revealed.

Step 5: Fine-Tune Your Animation

After setting keyframes for each letter, review your animation and make adjustments as needed.
1. Play back the text animation to see the typing effect.
2. Adjust the timing of the keyframes in the Effect Controls panel if the animation is too fast or too slow.
3. You can also add additional effects such as scale changes or opacity adjustments to enhance the animation.
